Care

Garden Eels are somewhat challenging to keep due to their specific requirements. They need a deep sand bed to burrow and a tank with a gentle current. It's crucial to provide a peaceful environment as they are shy and can be easily outcompeted for food by more aggressive fish. A diet of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp and finely chopped seafood is essential for their well-being.

Reproduction

In the wild, Garden Eels are colonial, living in groups with each individual maintaining its own burrow. Reproduction involves a unique dance where pairs will rise out of their burrows and entwine. However, breeding in captivity is rare and not well documented.

Habitat

Splendid Garden Eels are found in sandy areas adjacent to reefs in the Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea to the Western Pacific. They prefer depths ranging from 7 to 45 meters where they can catch planktonic food drifting by in the current.
