Care

Candy Cane Squirrelfish are moderately easy to care for but require a tank with plenty of hiding places to feel secure. They are generally peaceful but can be territorial with their own kind, so it's best to keep them singly unless the aquarium is large enough to support multiple territories. They thrive on a varied diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, and fish flesh.

Reproduction

In the wild, Sargocentron punctatissimum spawns in groups with eggs and larvae being pelagic, drifting with the currents. In the home aquarium, breeding is rare, but if conditions are optimal, they may spawn. The larvae require specialized care due to their planktonic nature.

Habitat

Candy Cane Squirrelfish are found in the Indo-Pacific region, from the Red Sea and East Africa to the central Pacific. They prefer coral reefs and rocky outcrops, typically at depths where light is subdued. They are adept at navigating the complex structures of the reef to avoid predators and find food.
