Care
Caring for the Orange Puffball Sponge requires a well-established aquarium with stable water conditions. It is a filter feeder, relying on the flow of water through its body to obtain nutrients. Therefore, moderate to strong water flow and good water quality are essential. It is also important to note that this sponge should never be exposed to air, as trapped air can be fatal.
Reproduction
Reproduction in Tethya aurantium is both sexual and asexual. In sexual reproduction, they release sperm into the water column, which is then captured by other sponges to fertilize their eggs internally. Asexually, they can reproduce by budding, where a part of the sponge breaks off and grows into a new individual.
Habitat
The Orange Puffball Sponge is typically found in shallow waters, often attached to rocks or other hard substrates. They are distributed across the Mediterranean Sea, the North Atlantic Ocean, and parts of the Adriatic Sea. In the wild, they can be found at depths ranging from the intertidal zone to about 200 meters.
