Common name: Nurse sharks

Scientific name: Ginglymostomatidae

The Ginglymostomatidae family, commonly known as nurse sharks, encompasses a group of bottom-dwelling sharks known for their sluggish behavior and strong jaws. They are often found in tropical and subtropical waters, resting during the day in groups and becoming more active at night. Nurse sharks are generally safe for humans and can be recognized by their barbels, which are sensory organs near the mouth used to search for prey in the sand. In the aquarium, they require large tanks with plenty of space to accommodate their size and sedentary nature.
