Genus

Common name: Batfish

Scientific name: Ogcocephalus

Ogcocephalus is a genus of fish known for their unique appearance and behavior. Members of this genus, commonly referred to as Batfish or Walking Batfish, have flattened bodies and pectoral fins adapted for 'walking' on the sea floor. They are found in tropical and subtropical waters, often associated with coral reefs. In the aquarium, they require specialized care due to their unique feeding habits, typically preying on small invertebrates. They are not recommended for beginner aquarists and should be kept in tanks with plenty of live rock and a sandy substrate to mimic their natural habitat.
