Care
Blueside Fairy Wrasses are relatively hardy and adaptable to aquarium life, making them suitable for intermediate aquarists. They thrive in well-established tanks with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging. A tightly fitting lid is essential as these wrasses are known jumpers, especially when startled or during acclimation to a new environment.
Their diet should include a variety of meaty foods such as frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. They also appreciate live foods and can help control small pest invertebrates in the aquarium.
Reproduction
In the wild, Blueside Fairy Wrasses are protogynous hermaphrodites, meaning they are born female and can change to male if the dominant male is removed from the group. In the aquarium, breeding is possible but challenging due to their complex social structure and spawning behaviors.
Habitat
Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura is found in the Western Pacific, from Indonesia to the Solomon Islands, and north to the Ryukyu Islands. They inhabit coral-rich areas of lagoons and seaward reefs, typically at depths ranging from 2 to 20 meters.
In the aquarium, they require a well-structured environment with ample swimming space and hiding places to mimic their natural habitat and support their active swimming behavior.
