Care

Naoko's Fairy Wrasse is a hardy species that thrives in a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging. They are peaceful fish that do well in a community tank but may become territorial with other wrasses. A tight-fitting lid is recommended as they are known jumpers. They accept a variety of foods, including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality marine flake and pellet foods.

Reproduction

In the wild, Naoko's Fairy Wrasse forms harems consisting of a dominant male and several females. In captivity, breeding is less common, but with a group, the dominant male may display courtship behavior. If a male is not present, the largest female has the potential to change sex and become the dominant male, a process known as protogynous hermaphroditism.

Habitat

Native to the Western Pacific, particularly around Indonesia and the Philippines, Naoko's Fairy Wrasse is found at depths ranging from 25 to 85 meters. They prefer reef environments with plenty of live rock and coral where they can hide and search for small invertebrates to eat.
