Care
Caring for a Magnificent Sea Anemone requires a well-established aquarium with stable water parameters. They need strong lighting to support their symbiotic algae, known as zooxanthellae, which provide them with nutrients through photosynthesis. Strong water flow is also essential to mimic their natural reef environment and to keep their tentacles healthy and free from debris.
Reproduction
In the wild, Heteractis magnifica can reproduce both sexually and asexually. In the aquarium, they may occasionally divide, leading to asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction is less common in captivity but can occur if conditions are ideal.
Symbiosis
The Magnificent Sea Anemone is well-known for its symbiotic relationship with clownfish, particularly the @species:amphiprion-ocellaris and @species:amphiprion-percula. These fish have evolved to be immune to the anemone's sting and can take refuge among its tentacles, which provides protection from predators. In return, the clownfish may help the anemone by cleaning its tentacles and providing nutrients through their waste.
Habitat
Heteractis magnifica is typically found in the Indo-Pacific region, from the Red Sea to Australia. They prefer shallow, sunny reef tops or slopes where they can anchor themselves to the substrate with their adhesive foot, called a pedal disc.
