Care

Yellowstripe Goatfish require a spacious aquarium with a sandy substrate to accommodate their natural foraging behavior. They are generally peaceful but can be territorial with their own kind, so it's best to keep them singly unless the tank is large enough to support a group with ample space for each individual. A varied diet of meaty foods, such as shrimp, squid, and marine fish flesh, will keep them healthy and their colors bright.

Reproduction

In the wild, Yellowstripe Goatfish are known to form large spawning aggregations, but breeding them in captivity is quite challenging. They release eggs and sperm into the water column, where fertilization occurs. The larvae are planktonic and would require specialized care if they were to be raised in an aquarium setting.

Habitat

Mulloidichthys flavolineatus is found in tropical and subtropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region. They are commonly seen over sandy bottoms and coral reefs, often in schools, and can be found at depths ranging from shallow lagoons to about 110 meters. Their natural habitat includes areas from East Africa to the Hawaiian, Marquesan, and Ducie islands, north to southern Japan, and south to New Caledonia and the Austral Islands.
