Care

Muriceopsis flavida requires moderate water flow and lighting to thrive in a reef aquarium. It is photosynthetic, thanks to a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae, but also benefits from supplemental feeding of planktonic foods. Stable water conditions and regular feeding will promote growth and maintain the coral's vibrant color.

Symbiosis

This gorgonian hosts zooxanthellae, symbiotic algae that provide it with nutrients through photosynthesis. In return, the coral provides the algae with a protected environment and access to light.

Habitat

In the wild, Muriceopsis flavida is found in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, typically in shallow waters where it attaches to hard substrates. It forms dense colonies that can become quite large, contributing to the complexity and diversity of the reef ecosystem.
