Care
Golden-lined Cardinalfish are relatively easy to care for, making them suitable for both novice and experienced aquarists. They thrive in a well-established aquarium with stable water conditions and plenty of hiding places. These fish are not aggressive and can be kept with a variety of other peaceful tank mates.
A varied diet of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood is essential for maintaining their health and coloration. It's important to feed them in the evening when they are most active.
Reproduction
In the aquarium, Ostorhinchus chrysotaenia can exhibit interesting reproductive behaviors. Males are mouthbrooders, meaning they will carry the fertilized eggs in their mouth until they hatch. This parental care increases the chances of survival for the offspring.
Habitat
The Golden-lined Cardinalfish is native to the Indo-Pacific region, where it is typically found in coral reefs and lagoons. They prefer areas with plenty of live rock or coral branches to provide shelter and a place to retreat during the day.
Their natural range extends from the eastern Indian Ocean to the western Pacific, including the Red Sea, East Africa, and the islands of the central Pacific.
