Care
Pearl-lined monocle breams are moderately easy to care for, making them suitable for intermediate aquarists. They require a well-established tank with plenty of hiding places and live rock for grazing. A varied diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood is essential for their health and coloration. It's important to maintain high water quality and stable parameters to keep these fish thriving.
Reproduction
In the wild, Scolopsis margaritifera are known to spawn in pairs or small groups. In the aquarium, breeding is rare, but with the right conditions and a mature pair, it is possible. The eggs are pelagic, meaning they float in the water column, and the larvae are planktonic after hatching.
Habitat
Pearl-lined monocle breams are found in the Indo-Pacific region, from the Red Sea and East Africa to Samoa, north to the Ryukyu Islands, and south to New Caledonia. They inhabit coral reefs and lagoons, often found at depths of 1 to 25 meters. In the aquarium, replicating their natural environment with live rock structures and ample swimming space is beneficial for their well-being.
