Common name: Black-tip sole
General information
The Peacock Sole, Soleichthys heterorhinos, is a unique and visually striking species of flatfish known for its vibrant, eye-catching patterns. Unlike many other soles, which are often dull in coloration to blend in with sandy bottoms, the Peacock Sole boasts a beautiful array of spots and markings that resemble the feathers of a peacock, hence its common name.
This species is not as common in the aquarium trade as other marine fish, but it can be a fascinating addition for experienced hobbyists who appreciate its beauty and behavior. It is a benthic species, meaning it lives on or near the bottom of the ocean.

Care
Peacock Soles require a specialized environment to thrive in captivity. They need a sandy substrate to bury themselves and ample space to move around. A minimum tank size of 75 gallons is recommended to provide enough bottom area. These fish are carnivorous and prefer a diet of meaty foods such as small fish, crustaceans, and worms.
Reproduction
Little is known about the reproductive habits of the Peacock Sole in the wild or in captivity. They are presumed to have a similar reproductive strategy to other sole species, which involves external fertilization.
Habitat
Soleichthys heterorhinos is found in the Indo-Pacific region, from the eastern coast of Africa to the western Pacific Ocean. They inhabit sandy and muddy bottoms of coastal waters, estuaries, and lagoons, often at depths ranging from shallow waters to about 50 meters.
