Common name: Green Hair Algae

Scientific name: Bryopsidaceae

The Bryopsidaceae family, commonly known as Green Hair Algae or Bryopsis, is a group of green algae found in marine environments. These algae are characterized by their hair-like appearance and can be both a common sight and a nuisance in reef aquariums. They are photosynthetic and thrive in nutrient-rich conditions, often outcompeting other algae and corals for space and resources. While some aquarists may intentionally cultivate them for nutrient export, most strive to control their growth through manual removal, nutrient control, and the introduction of algae-eating organisms.
