Carpiliidae, commonly known as Emerald Crabs, are a family of reef-safe crustaceans known for their vibrant green coloration and their beneficial role in controlling algae in marine aquariums. They are peaceful scavengers that can coexist with most tank inhabitants. Their diet consists mainly of various types of algae, but they will also consume leftover food and detritus, helping to keep the tank clean. They are nocturnal and often hide during the day, coming out at night to feed. Hobbyists appreciate them for their algae-eating habits and their ability to reach into small crevices with their nimble claws.
