Common name: Squat Lobsters

Scientific name: Chirostylidae

Chirostylidae, commonly known as squat lobsters, are a family of decapod crustaceans found in coral reefs and other marine environments. They are not true lobsters but are more closely related to hermit crabs and porcelain crabs. Squat lobsters are known for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns, making them popular among reef hobbyists. They typically have long, flattened bodies and large, asymmetrical claws. These creatures are scavengers, feeding on detritus and small organisms, which helps maintain the cleanliness of the aquarium. They are generally peaceful and can coexist with a variety of other marine species, but care should be taken to ensure they are not housed with aggressive fish that may harm them.
