Common name: Mushroom Corals

Scientific name: Discosomatidae

Discosomatidae, commonly known as Mushroom Corals or Disc Anemones, are a family of corals popular in the reefkeeping hobby for their hardiness and vibrant colors. They are well-suited for beginners due to their low light and flow requirements. These corals exhibit a variety of forms and can reproduce easily in the aquarium through a process called 'budding', where new corals form from the base of the parent. They host symbiotic zooxanthellae, which provide them with nutrients through photosynthesis, but they can also feed on small particles and plankton in the water.
