Common name: Mushroom Corals
Scientific name: Corallimorpharia
Corallimorpharia, commonly known as Mushroom Corals or Corallimorphs, are an order of marine cnidarians closely related to stony corals. They lack a true skeleton but often have vibrant colors and interesting patterns, making them popular in reef aquariums. These corals are generally hardy and can tolerate a range of lighting conditions, which suits beginners. They reproduce asexually through a process called 'pedal laceration', where new polyps form from the base of the parent. Mushroom Corals can host a variety of symbiotic organisms, including zooxanthellae, which provide them with nutrients through photosynthesis.
