Platycephalidae, commonly known as flatheads, are a family of marine fish known for their unique flattened heads and body shape. They are ambush predators, often burying themselves in sand or mud to surprise prey. Flatheads are found in tropical and subtropical waters, with some species popular in the aquarium trade for their interesting behavior and appearance. They require sandy or soft substrates in the aquarium to mimic their natural habitat. While generally peaceful, they can be predatory towards smaller tank mates.
