Common name: Waspfishes

Scientific name: Tetrarogidae

Tetrarogidae, commonly known as waspfishes, firefishes, or goblinfishes, are a family of venomous marine fish found in the Indo-Pacific region. They are known for their cryptic appearance, often resembling dead leaves or algae-covered rocks, which aids in ambush predation. Waspfishes have a unique defense mechanism involving venomous spines on their dorsal fins. They are generally nocturnal and prefer to stay hidden during the day. In the aquarium, they require plenty of hiding places and a peaceful environment. Their diet consists mainly of small fish and crustaceans. Due to their venomous nature, caution is advised when handling these fish.
