Genus
Common name: Gurnard
Scientific name: Chelidonichthys
Chelidonichthys, commonly known as gurnards, are a genus of bottom-dwelling marine fish known for their armored, bony heads and finger-like pectoral fins which they use to 'walk' along the seabed. They are fascinating additions to larger marine aquariums due to their unique appearance and behavior. Gurnards are also known for making grunting sounds, which can be heard even outside the water. They are carnivorous, feeding on a variety of invertebrates and small fish. In the aquarium, they require a diet of meaty foods and plenty of space to roam.
