Genus

Common name: Murex Snails

Scientific name: Chicoreus

Chicoreus is a genus of predatory sea snails, commonly known as Murex snails or rock snails. They are recognized for their ornate, spiny shells which are popular among collectors. In the aquarium, they can serve as a natural control for nuisance bristle worms. However, they may also prey on other beneficial invertebrates, so caution is advised when introducing them to a community tank. They require a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock to thrive and exhibit natural hunting behavior.
