Genus
Common name: Button Coral
Scientific name: Cynarina
Cynarina is a genus of large polyp stony corals commonly known as Button Coral or Doughnut Coral. These solitary corals are appreciated for their vibrant colors and fleshy appearance. They are relatively hardy and can adapt to a range of lighting conditions, although moderate lighting and water flow are ideal. Cynarina corals are known to inflate their bodies, which can be quite a spectacle. They benefit from occasional feeding of meaty foods like mysis shrimp. In the wild, they often host a variety of symbiotic organisms, including zooxanthellae, which help them with photosynthesis.
