Genus
Common name: Golden Trevally
Scientific name: Gnathanodon
The Gnathanodon genus is represented in the aquarium trade by the Golden Trevally, Gnathanodon speciosus. This striking fish is known for its bright yellow juvenile coloration, which transitions to a silvery hue as it matures. Golden Trevallies are social and often form schools in the wild. They are powerful swimmers and require spacious tanks with plenty of open swimming space. They are not reef-safe as they may nip at small invertebrates and are best kept in a fish-only or large predator tank. Their diet should include a variety of meaty foods.
