Genus

Common name: Horn Coral

Scientific name: Hydnophora

Hydnophora is a genus of small polyp stony corals known for their distinctive, bumpy skeletal structures which resemble horns, giving rise to the common name 'Horn Coral'. These corals are found in a variety of colors, often exhibiting bright greens and browns. They are known for their aggressive growth and can outcompete other corals for space, so careful placement in the reef aquarium is essential. Hydnophora corals have a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae, which assist in photosynthesis and contribute to their vibrant colors. They require moderate to high lighting and strong water flow to thrive in captivity.
