Common name: Peppermint Shrimp

Scientific name: Pontonides

Pontonides is a genus of shrimp within the family Palaemonidae, commonly known as Peppermint Shrimp among aquarists. These shrimp are popular in the reefkeeping hobby for their ability to control nuisance pests, particularly Aiptasia, a type of pest anemone. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of tank mates. Pontonides species are nocturnal and prefer to hide during the day, emerging at night to feed. They are omnivorous and will accept a wide range of foods, but providing a diet that includes meaty foods and vegetable matter will ensure their nutritional needs are met.
