Genus
Common name: Zebra Shark
Scientific name: Stegostoma
Stegostoma, commonly known as the Zebra Shark, is a genus of carpet sharks often recognized for their distinctive striped patterns in juveniles, which transition to spots in adulthood. These sharks are a favorite among aquarists for their docile nature and unique appearance. In the wild, they are found in the tropical Indo-Pacific region, frequenting coral reefs and sandy flats. Zebra Sharks are nocturnal and spend much of the day resting on the sea floor. They are oviparous, laying eggs that hatch into pups. While they can reach lengths of over 2 meters, they are generally considered harmless to humans.
