Care

Hasselt's Goby requires a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock and a sandy substrate to mimic its natural habitat. They are bottom dwellers and appreciate the presence of hiding places and burrows. This species is generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive tank mates. They are not the easiest species to care for due to their specific habitat needs and feeding requirements, as they prefer a diet of small live foods such as copepods and brine shrimp.

Reproduction

In the wild, Hasselt's Goby is known to form monogamous pairs during the breeding season. They lay their eggs in a secure location, often within the burrows they inhabit. The male typically guards the eggs until they hatch. Reproduction in the home aquarium is rare, but a stable environment and excellent water quality can encourage breeding behavior.

Habitat

Callogobius hasseltii is found in the Indo-Pacific region, from the Red Sea and East Africa to the western Pacific. They inhabit shallow coastal waters, often in areas with sandy or rubble substrates where they can easily burrow. This species is usually found at depths ranging from the intertidal zone to about 30 meters.
