Care

Jeweled Damselfish are relatively easy to care for, but they can be territorial, especially in smaller tanks. They thrive in well-established aquariums with plenty of rockwork and hiding spaces. A varied diet of meaty foods, algae, and high-quality commercial feeds will help maintain their health and coloration. It's important to monitor tank dynamics, as they can become aggressive towards other tank mates.

Reproduction

In the wild, Plectroglyphidodon lacrymatus forms breeding pairs during the spawning season. They lay eggs on substrates, which are then guarded by the male until they hatch. While breeding them in captivity is possible, it requires a dedicated setup to successfully raise the fry.

Habitat

Jeweled Damselfish are found in the Indo-Pacific region, from the Red Sea and East Africa to the Line Islands, north to southern Japan, and south to New Caledonia. They inhabit coral-rich areas of lagoon and seaward reefs, often seen at depths from just below the surface to about 12 meters.
