Common name: Camouflaged flatworm
General information
Pseudobiceros kryptos, commonly known as the Cryptic Pseudoceros, is a species of flatworm in the family Pseudocerotidae. These flatworms are known for their vibrant colors and patterns, which make them a visually appealing addition to the reef aquarium. Despite their beauty, they are not commonly kept due to their complex care requirements and potential predatory behavior towards other tank inhabitants.

Care
Cryptic Pseudoceros flatworms require a well-established aquarium with a stable environment. They are sensitive to water quality and require pristine conditions with low nitrate levels. These flatworms are not photosynthetic and rely on hunting small invertebrates or scavenging for food, which can make them a challenge to feed in captivity. They are best suited for expert hobbyists who can provide a specialized diet and monitor their behavior to prevent predation on desirable tank mates.
Reproduction
Pseudobiceros kryptos reproduces through a process called binary fission, where the organism splits into two identical halves, each becoming a new individual. This asexual reproduction method allows for rapid population growth in the right conditions. However, in the confines of an aquarium, controlling their numbers can be challenging and may require manual intervention.
Symbiosis
While Pseudobiceros kryptos does not engage in the more commonly known forms of symbiosis, such as those seen with clownfish and anemones, it does play a role in the ecosystem by controlling populations of smaller invertebrates and contributing to the nutrient cycle within the reef environment.
Habitat
In the wild, Pseudobiceros kryptos is found in tropical and subtropical waters, often associated with coral reefs and rocky substrates. They are benthic creatures, meaning they live on the bottom of the ocean, where they can blend in with the surrounding environment to avoid predators and ambush prey.
