Common name: Flashlight Fish
Scientific name: Anomalopidae
Anomalopidae, commonly known as Flashlight Fish or Lantern Eye Fish, are a family of bioluminescent marine fish. They are characterized by light organs located beneath their eyes, which are inhabited by symbiotic bioluminescent bacteria. These fish use their light for communication, predator avoidance, and to attract prey. They are nocturnal and prefer reef environments with plenty of hiding places. In the aquarium, they require a dimly lit tank with caves and overhangs to mimic their natural habitat.
