Common name: Urchins

Scientific name: Diadematidae

Diadematidae, commonly known as Diadem Sea Urchins or Long-spined Sea Urchins, are a family of sea urchins characterized by their long, thin spines. These urchins play a crucial role in maintaining the health of coral reefs by grazing on algae that can otherwise overgrow and smother corals. In the aquarium, they require stable water conditions and plenty of live rock to graze on. They are sensitive to sudden changes in water parameters and should be acclimated carefully. Their spines can be sharp and venomous, so handling should be done with care.
