Common name: Basket Stars

Scientific name: Gorgonocephalidae

Gorgonocephalidae, commonly known as basket stars, are a family of brittle stars. They are characterized by their intricate, highly branched arms which they use for suspension feeding. Basket stars are nocturnal and often hide during the day in crevices or under rocks. In the aquarium, they require a well-established tank with plenty of live rock for hiding and a gentle current to help them capture planktonic food. They are fascinating creatures but can be sensitive to water quality and are best suited for experienced aquarists.
