Common name: Moonfish
Scientific name: Monodactylidae
Monodactylidae, commonly known as Moonfish or Monos, are a family of perciform fish that inhabit brackish and marine waters in the Indo-Pacific region. They are characterized by their laterally compressed bodies and silver coloration, often with a yellow or black band. In the aquarium, they require spacious tanks with plenty of swimming room and a gradual transition from brackish to marine conditions as they mature. They are schooling fish and should be kept in groups. Their diet is omnivorous, including both plant and animal matter.
