Common name: Brittle Stars

Scientific name: Ophiocomidae

Ophiocomidae is a family of echinoderms, commonly known as brittle stars or serpent stars, characterized by their long, slender arms which are distinct from their central disc. Members of this family are known for their ability to regenerate lost limbs and their role in the cleanup crew of a reef aquarium, consuming detritus and uneaten food. They are generally nocturnal and can be quite reclusive during the day. Ophiocomidae species are beneficial for maintaining a balanced ecosystem in the tank but should be introduced with caution to avoid overpopulation.
