Genus

Common name: Squat Lobster

Scientific name: Chirostylus

Chirostylus is a genus of squat lobsters in the family Chirostylidae, known for their elongated bodies and relatively large claws. They are often brightly colored, making them popular in the reef aquarium trade. These crustaceans are not true lobsters but are more closely related to hermit crabs. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of tank mates. In the wild, they are found in association with deep-sea coral environments, but in the aquarium, they adapt well to live rock and coral setups. They feed on a variety of foods, including detritus, plankton, and meaty foods.
