Genus
Common name: Panther Grouper
Scientific name: Cromileptes
Cromileptes altivelis, commonly known as the Panther Grouper or Humpback Grouper, is a striking marine fish with a distinctive hump on its head. It's popular among aquarists for its bold pattern of black spots on a white to creamy background. This species can grow quite large, reaching up to 70 cm in length, and requires a spacious tank with plenty of hiding places. They are carnivorous, feeding on a diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, and small fish. While juvenile Panther Groupers are manageable in size, their rapid growth and eventual large size pose a challenge for long-term care in home aquariums.
