Genus

Common name: Red Sea Star

Scientific name: Echinaster

Echinaster, commonly known as the Red Sea Star, is a genus of sea stars found in tropical and subtropical regions. These sea stars are known for their striking red coloration and are popular in the reefkeeping hobby for their peaceful nature and relatively easy care. They are generally hardy and can adapt to a range of conditions, but they do require a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing. Echinaster species are omnivorous, feeding on detritus, small invertebrates, and film algae. They are beneficial for controlling algae growth and contribute to the tank's cleanup crew.
