Monocentris is a genus of beryciform fish known commonly as Pinecone Fish, named for their distinctive armor-like scales and luminescent organs. These nocturnal fish are found in deep reef environments and are popular for their unique appearance and bioluminescent capabilities. They are relatively small, reaching about 17 cm in length, and are known for their bright yellow coloration with blue to white light organs located near the lower jaw, which are symbiotically inhabited by bioluminescent bacteria. In the aquarium, they require a peaceful environment with plenty of hiding places and a dimly lit tank to mimic their natural habitat.
