The genus Odontodactylus, commonly known as Peacock Mantis Shrimp, is renowned for its vibrant colors and complex behaviors. Members of this genus are highly intelligent and possess keen eyesight. They are also known for their powerful smashing appendages, which they use to break open hard-shelled prey. In the aquarium, they require a species-specific setup with plenty of hiding places and a secure lid, as they can be escape artists. They are not reef safe and can be aggressive, so they should be kept alone or with very carefully chosen tank mates.
