Genus
Common name: Humphead Bannerfish
Scientific name: Parachaetodon
The genus Parachaetodon is home to a single species, the Humphead Bannerfish (Parachaetodon ocellatus). This striking fish is known for its tall dorsal fin and distinctive patterning, which includes a large ocellus or 'eye spot' on the dorsal fin. They are peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other reef-safe fish. In the wild, they are found in shallow reefs and lagoons in the Indo-Pacific region. They feed on a variety of small invertebrates and zooplankton. In the aquarium, they require a varied diet and plenty of swimming space.
