Genus
Common name: Yellow Polyps
Scientific name: Parazoanthus
Parazoanthus is a genus of colonial anemones often referred to as Yellow Polyps. They are popular in the reefkeeping hobby for their bright yellow to golden coloration and ease of care. These polyps are known for their ability to form extensive mats over the substrate or live rock, creating a stunning visual effect. They are photosynthetic, hosting symbiotic zooxanthellae which assist in their nutrition, but they also benefit from supplemental feeding of planktonic foods. Parazoanthus species are generally peaceful but can be aggressive to other sessile invertebrates by overgrowing them.
