Common name: Solar Powered Nudibranch

Scientific name: Phyllodesmium

Phyllodesmium is a genus of aeolid nudibranchs known for their unique ability to harbor zooxanthellae, symbiotic algae, within their tissues. This relationship allows them to derive some of their nutritional needs from photosynthesis, earning them the nickname 'Solar Powered Nudibranch'. They exhibit a stunning array of forms and colors, often mimicking the appearance of soft corals they inhabit. Hobbyists appreciate them for their beauty and the fascinating symbiosis they represent, but they require expert care and are not recommended for beginners.
