Genus
Common name: Bubble Coral
Scientific name: Physogyra
Physogyra is a genus of stony corals known commonly as Bubble Corals due to their distinctive bubble-like appearance when their polyps are expanded during the day. They are popular in the reefkeeping hobby for their unique look and relatively easy care requirements. Bubble Corals prefer low to moderate lighting and water flow, and they can be quite hardy when provided with stable conditions. They host symbiotic zooxanthellae in their tissues, which assist in their nutritional needs through photosynthesis, but they also benefit from supplemental feedings of planktonic foods.
