Common name: Brain Coral

Scientific name: Platygyra

Platygyra, commonly known as Brain Coral or Maze Coral, is a genus of large polyp stony corals (LPS) recognizable by their meandering ridges and valleys that resemble a brain's surface. These corals are popular in reef aquariums for their hardiness and variety of colors. They host symbiotic zooxanthellae which aid in their nutrition through photosynthesis. Platygyra species thrive in moderate lighting and water flow, and they benefit from supplemental feedings of planktonic foods.
