General information
The Reticulated Dascyllus, Dascyllus reticulatus, is a small and attractive damselfish species known for its striking coloration and reticulated pattern. Care
Reticulated Dascyllus are hardy and can adapt to a range of aquarium conditions, making them suitable for both novice and experienced aquarists. They prefer an aquarium with plenty of live rock for hiding and territorial establishment. Aggression can be an issue, especially in smaller tanks, so it's important to provide ample space and consider tank mates carefully. A varied diet of meaty foods, algae, and high-quality commercial feeds will help maintain their health and coloration.
Reproduction
Like many damselfish, the Reticulated Dascyllus is an egg layer. They typically spawn in pairs, with the female depositing eggs on a flat surface, which the male then fertilizes. The male guards the eggs until they hatch, displaying increased territorial behavior during this time. Breeding them in captivity can be challenging but rewarding for dedicated hobbyists.
Habitat
The Reticulated Dascyllus is found in the Western Pacific, from Indonesia to the Philippines, and north to the Ryukyu Islands. They inhabit coral-rich areas of lagoons and outer reefs, often associating with branching corals like Pocillopora. In the wild, they are typically found at depths ranging from 1 to 12 meters.
