These corals are photosynthetic and host zooxanthellae, symbiotic algae that provide them with nutrients through photosynthesis. They are generally hardy and can be a good choice for beginners, but they do require stable water conditions and moderate to high lighting to thrive. Plate Corals are also known for their ability to extend sweeper tentacles at night to fend off competitors or capture prey.
