The Ophiolepididae family, commonly known as Brittle Stars or Serpent Stars, comprises a diverse group of echinoderms characterized by their distinct long, slender arms which are highly flexible. They are known for their ability to regenerate lost limbs and are often seen as beneficial tank cleaners in reef aquariums. Brittle stars are nocturnal and tend to hide during the day, emerging at night to feed on detritus and small organisms. They are generally reef-safe and can coexist with a variety of tank mates.
