Genus

Common name: Tube Anemone

Scientific name: Cerianthus

Cerianthus, commonly known as Tube Anemones, are a genus of large and colorful burrowing anemones. Unlike reef-building anemones, they live inside a parchment-like tube, which they can withdraw into when threatened. They are known for their long, flowing tentacles and come in a variety of colors, including purples, oranges, and browns. Tube Anemones are filter feeders and require moderate to strong water flow and good water quality. They are not photosynthetic and rely on feeding on plankton and suspended food particles. They can be a striking addition to a reef or fish-only aquarium, but their predatory nature means they should be kept with caution around small fish and invertebrates.
