Order
Common name: Tube Anemones
Scientific name: Ceriantharia
Ceriantharia, commonly known as tube anemones or cerianthids, are an order of sea anemones that are distinct for living in soft sediment habitats. They construct a parchment-like tube in the substrate, which they can retract into for protection. Unlike reef-building anemones, they are not symbiotic with zooxanthellae. Cerianthids are nocturnal and have a unique feeding strategy using their long tentacles to capture prey. They can add a unique aspect to a larger marine aquarium, but their care requires attention to substrate and feeding.
